Lighthouse Thame 2009
PRESS RELEASE
Immediate Release: 22nd July 2009
Thame Showground is ‘buzzing’ with Superheroes of all ages
With 10 marquees and an army of volunteers, Thame Showground has been alive this week with music, drama, sports, crafts and laughter as the annual Lighthouse Thame event has welcomed 900 people to daily events.
One happy parent, commenting on social networking site Facebook said, “It’s buzzing!”
The week’s theme – Superheros – has seen a large number of people wearing pants over trousers! Each day concludes with a huge get together in the ‘Lighthouse Thame Big Top’ where one of the leaders is gunged in the special gunge tank.
Lighthouse Thame has catered for over 900 people of all ages, from babies to those in their 90’s, with over 300 helpers from a coalition of 16 local churches. Volunteer leader Jeanette Dixon commented, “I am absolutely shattered, but wouldn’t miss it for the world, and I’ll be back next year!” “This year we have also added an event for the elderly on Tuesday and Thursday where we will be entertaining a number of elderly people in Thame”, says Angela Willson, coordinator of Silver Lighthouse, a new development this year.
Yet, it doesn’t end there, every evening there are special events for over 100 teenage helpers. “We have some awesome games, engaging speakers, live bands, barbeques and giant inflatable evening,” said Pete Stratton, Barley Hill Church Youth Leader.
Lighthouse Thame is part of a family of seven similar events, in Great Missenden, Princes Risborough, High Wycombe, Burnham, Hazlemere and Marlow, between them hosting several thousand children each year.
